Hi bloggers..am blogging after a long long time. Been busy with quizzes then the pesky second midsems came and then came the Dussehra hols. Went home and all I did was eat, drink, sleep and leak.Perfect work. Now I am back and blogging. Right now its evening of Sunday, 16th October and I have a lot to post. So lets begin with Rendezvous : the IITD culfest.
You go to roadside sometimes where these Khomchawalas sit and sell panipuris, samosas and stuff like that. Sometimes you buy that stuff to stuff in. So howz that like? It might happen that you see the icing and those attractive colors and the sizzling aroma that gives you the feeling that you gonna eat something spicy and tasty and then you buy it, stuff it in and before it goes through the neck you feel like spitting it out but you can’t. There is no way out. Having wasted money and time, you just let it slip in…So what that has got to do with Rendezvous? Well that was Rendezvous for me ( sorry Phoenix and other gals and guys from IITD ).
DAY 1
We saw no hospitality. At IITK we have a proper Hospitality Cell which sets up a Hospitality Desk at Kanpur Central for helping the teams arriving for ANTARAGNI ( IITK culfest ) by trains. Then there are Hospi-vollys ( volunteers ) who are assigned particular teams which they look after and help. They take them from station to the IITK bus or any other conveyance and leave when the teams have settled down to there alooted rest rooms. These volunteers and the Secys ( posted above vollys ) take care of the teams almost all the time. Well nothing of that sort was seen at Delhi.
We didn’t expect any hospitality coz seniors told from last years’ experience that there would not be any. So we took this shitting bus from railway station, landed up in the wrong area, walked a few miles out to a Bus Stop, took another shitting bus and then reached IITD.
So how was the campus like? Really clean and beautiful. The roads , the road-side gardens and sidewalk grasses are really well maintained. So with this half-a-ton luggage, with rain haunting us, our seven membered team dragged on in search of other team mates ( more than half the team had arrived two days before us ). I looked at the banner drapped campus and laughed at the HUTCH banners. We had no connectivity to mobiles of other team mates. Somebody ( he was NOT from IITD ) told that JWALAMUKHI ( its a UG boys’ hostel ) was organising Rendezvous. Wondering how one hostel can manage an Insti event, we took the route to this hostel, dragging on foolishly with no one to help. Anyways we reached the hostel, waited about half an hour or so before someone ‘responsible’ came to the desk there and then we learnt that we had to go to Vindy or Kumaon ( these two are also UG boys’ hostels ). Finally we settled down in Kumaon. Milte hain break ke baad…..
After the daily chores we checked our schedule. Hindi events included the debate prelims, Prem patra lekhan pratiyogita ( Love letter writing competition ) and the crosswords (issued evey hour or so). There were several other events but the number was less than the events organised by IITK Fine Arts club alone in Antaragni. Don’t take my word, just drop in at IITK on 20th and stay till Sunday this week. We went to WS 204 and participated in the debate. Nobody made it to the finals (
). After that we tried hands at crosswords. We won two out of three and had those tasty chocolates for prizes. Some achievement that……( The crosswords were issued at the Hindi desk stationed at the INSTI, the main building of IITD and at this point I would like to add that the INSTI is really good and imposing. Have a look.. ).

We participated in the Prem Patra Lekhan Pratiyogita, something I will never forget in years to come for reason I am going to shortly. So we went to WS 204 or some number like that and sat down for this event. Lot of junta had turned up to participate. In comes this lady ( the reason ) in yellow top and blue jeans. She came in like the Autumn Breeze and I felt as if a thousand dried leaves suddenly fell down from a tree branch. So what did I do? I wanted to write my letter to her but…instead I addressed it to some girl called Anamika ( are you reading! all blogging Anamikas?? ). Anyways this competition ended and we then participated in Word Games organised by English Lits people. The competition was a heavy dose and infact while the other teams scribbled, ticked and tacked, we dozed, drooling occasionaly over the Game’s Paper provided to us. Finally, frustrated with our English Knowledge Database we ran off to Kumaon.
Rest of the day we went here and there looking for substance in that style-jungle. A new term comes to my mind : ‘Junk-food event’ : tasty but no substance. The traffic was unexpectedly low. We had expected loads and loads of people in the campus but may be due to rain or some other reason we saw less than the expected crowd. However there was one relief: we saw real babes and that was as refreshing as the rain drops staying on fresh green grasses ( Wordsworth is churning in his grave right now..). We ate here and there: frankies, ice creams, burgers et cetera. Day long sauntering along with occasional drizzle finally melted in our legs and after some food at SIP-N-BITE ( its this eatery in the campus ) we retired to our rest room ( which was the table tennis room of Kumaon). At night around 9 pm we were back to action only to find that the campus was almost out of action. Saw the IITD nukkad team practising at the INSTI. Then I did something that amazes me now. I will write abt this sometime but no more elaboration rite now.
DAY 2
None of us made it for a prize in Prem Patra. There were no events left in Hindi section so we intruded fine arts and lent our faces to the IITK fine arts team for face painting. The theme given was Alien. Total four teams from IITK participated and the participation ended in a fiasco. We all interpreted the theme for philosophy and in the end the Judge discarded all of us in favor of techno interpretations. Wasted time and looks! Anyways, we were free again. After getting rid of colors and hunger we tried to enter the Rock Show without success. So we went to the Insti, sat down and did a lot of bird-watching. The Hutch people were busy catching road walkers for some on road activity, searching murgas and murgis to dispose Hutch T’s and other stuff. Finally the time was up and at around 9 pm we left the campus to return to Last Homely House.
IITK performance
1. Hindi Play : Disqualified for non-competitive play and overuse of abuse.
2. Rangoli : Second
3. Quiz : Second
4. Nukkad : Fourth ( Special Mention )
5. Crosswords : Won twice ( by the way that was no great achievement but seeing that the Hindi team didn’t win anything, it was no mean achievement either. )
What offended me
1. No hospitality ( okay its yer way of organising so no more peeing on yer management )
2. Disqualification in hindi play competition. How do you define vulgarity? How will you portray a hostel scene? By singing bhajans?? And if what we did was vulgarity, portraying on screen rape scenes by throwing bras et cetera and on stage smoking, what will you call this??
3. After all this, when we tried to see some singing competition, the Security Cell people said : “Yaar IITK waale hain..jaane de ya na jane de?” So what dya think we are? Some shitball or stuff?? Good hospitality..I will remember that one for years. What not to do when you invite people…
4. No night life. Probably Delhi’s atmosphere does not allow this but if the roads inside campus horrorize you with emptiness at 12 midnite in the middle of a gala event..you better try to make things more interesting and absorbing.
Okay no more peeing. I have left out many other things ( as if you were waiting for those ) we did but that does not matter. Anything interesting and left out will come out on my blog someday. Rite now preparations for Antaragni are on here at IITK. Hope its better than this.
PS: I expect some chilly comments on this post so for those new on my blog, I have another blog by the name
smiling tears. This is called running
nude for publicity.
Hi
nice to see a detailed post on Rendezvous from you…of course I can identify with it, and of course I’m disappointed that u guys had to face a rather tough time…IITD is normally not that bad…but then, wat can i say, except sorry maybe?
OK…now for the post
1.Hope ur vacs and midsems both went well!:)
2. I dont think it was that bad as the junexperience u mention, but ok i wont argue..i dont know wat side of the whol thing u saw.
3. We do have a hospitality cell, lots of volus, coordis and Ac heads…inspite of that, there might have been inefficieny, totally unexpected, but wat can be done now.
sorry
4. why doi u hate the hutch banners?
5. in our college, traditionally, one hostel gets the main responsibility for organisation of every fest-cult, tech, or sport..that i the G. Sec’s hostel…of course every other hostel works too, but the majr organiational responsibility is with one hostel, and work gets outsourced from there…
6.I seriously nna know how amny events does Antarangini organise..i’ve been desperately browsin ur website for some reliable info..but eventually had to ask frnds to access the internal ite to give me the quiz timings for ur upcoming fest…
i think we had lotsa events…did u chk out the whole schedule?
7.Which debate dd u participate in? eng or hindi?
8. ok so now i know u really liked that gal from my college, who was there at the love letter writing competition..infact, she’from my hostel, and a dear friend…i showed her ur blog!
9.u found the wod games tough did you?well the competition as certainly goo, and therefore we maintained the level, but we saw appreciable efforts by the participants too…(i was a part of the organising team..that happens to be my club, infact i was there thru-out uring that event)
10.chalo atlst u saw some girls:)
11. what did u do? y the suspense?
and ya the crowds were much less this time..rain exams and wat not!
12.hindi play thing…i guess it’s a matter of discretion..upto the judges…little we can do if we need to ensure fair judgement
13. delhi DOES not, sadly, hav a night life…but i myself was hangin around with loads a frnds till 4 every night int he campus..we dont die…
14. hope ur antarangini goes well…

[...] I understand now why the term is ‘crush’. It crushes the hell out of you. Makes you go haywire. Your life becomes one big mayhem and only pandemonium exists. This somewhat fat, bearded boy, who ascended from the chick-poor IIT Kanpur hostel room to become someone completely different. Anurag was right. How could I do it? Me? Even I was taken over by disbelief but in any case I had done it. Over the next few days, I became oblivious of the outside world. For me nothing existed except me and those foolish fantasies. I realise it now, human mind is brilliant. Even the mind of jackasses like me ( human jackasses ). It can build up on things in such a way that sometimes one might be confused about what is real and what is surreal. My fantasies grabbed me and I lost track of studies and stuff. No I am not blaming it on anybody except me. I should have followed what I had said to her but I didn’t do it. My blogging tempo was on a high and I posted a review on my visit to IITD where I happened to mention a bit about this incident. I also commented on a post about Rendezvous on phoenix’s blog. She visited my blog and read my post and she turned out to be a friend of the girl I had tried to give the chocolate to. What? I am not joking or making up stuff. I was surprised myself at this coincidence. Pure bollywood stuff. She made the lady read my blog and somewhere in my comments back to phoenix I mentioned that her friend owed me a chocolate. [...]
